current Research

Our research interests lie at the interface of chemistry and biology with particular emphasis on nanocarrier mediated delivery of metal-based drugs for their potential applications in various diseases and in the development of nano-vaccines. We are focused on interdisciplinary approaches for drug development. Our lab strategically place research at the interface of biological chemistry and nanotechnology. The progress for targeted delivery in specific cell organelles is limited. Our research is directed to develop organelle targeting polymeric nanoparticle-metal complex constructs, and to study nanoparticle assisted targeted delivery and the anticancer properties. Our lab develops technologies that use a combination of conventional methods of cancer treatment and immunotherapy in a single nanoparticle platform to provide powerful low-cost tool to treat cancer in humans.

Research Interests

Theoretical Chemistry and Chemical Physics, Classical and Quantum Monte Carlo, Molecular Dynamics, Structure and Dynamics of Liquids, Water and Hydration, Nucleation, Self-assembly.

Dr. Chakravarty works on the development and application of quantum and classical computer simulation methods to understand properties of liquids, and the atomic level reorganisations associated with phase transitions and self-assembly processes. Much of her work on liquids in the past few years has centered on understanding the anomalous properties of water since hydration is a fundamental process in many chemical and biological systems. In this context, she has also been working on network-forming ionic melts, such as silica and beryllium fluoride, which display water-like liquid state anomalies. Her work on phase transitions and energy landscapes is of relevance to understanding sol-gel transitions in lipid bilayers, protein folding and protein aggregation.

Reseach Area
  • Theory and Computational Science
  • Complex Fluids and Polymer Engineering
  • Polymer Physics
 Research Interest
  • Development of new theories and extension of the existing ones to decribe dynamics in supercooled liquids.
  • Dynamics in supercooled liquid regime. Interplay between diffusion and activated motion.
  • Interaction potential and its effect on the dynamics
  • Relation between thermodynamics  and dynamics in glassy system.
  • Diffusion through porous medium.

We develop and use theoretical models to  study dynamical properties in liquids and soft matter systems. Computer simulation studies are also performed sometimes to validate the theories and sometimes to make new predictions. The systems studied are, liquids in their normal viscoelastic liquid regime and also in their supercooled regime approaching glass transition, systems mimicking colloidal systems and other soft matters system like  biological system.
